2009 Domaine Pichot Coteau de la Biche Vouvray Sec

France, Loire Valley 12.5% Screwcap $35

Imported by Vintage and Vine.

I like Vouvray. I should drink more of it. On opening, this was a little disappointing. A rich nose of stewed apples, pear and cinnamon. Lighter notes of lemon citrus underneath. Some wax wafted around as well. Rounded and quite voluptuous in the mouth with the fruit flavours melding into an amorphous conglomerate. I really longed for more definition, more cut and thrust.

About an hour later that’s precisely what I got. The wine’s muted tones came alive, imparting a sense of freshness and separation on the palate. The lavishness endured but it was countered by a shaft of acidity. It wrapped up nicely with honeyed apple, spice and wet pebbles. Good length without being outstanding.

Commendable all up although it fell well short of scaling the heights of greatness. It’s always fun when you initially write a wine off and down the track it starts strutting. Keeps you on your toes. 91

Excellent. 91 is around silver medal territory I think. I love bling.

I'm just getting to lazy to evaluate everything in words ;)

Not that this site is solely about the evaluation of wine. It's still committed to bad puns, jokes that nobody gets and musings on aesthetics that send the majority of readers to sleep. Oh, and the odd quotation that sends people to google because they haven't read Tolkien in a long time :)

Yes, even I'm a little scared now that I've started reviewing Vouvray :)

Have you seen The Wine Doctor? (bit of wanky name for a blog I know) He writes on Vouvray.
