Champagne 12% Cork $69.95

Firstly, a quick plug for an extremely good book that was released last week, Tyson Stelzer’s “The Champagne Guide 2011″. It’s well written, thoughtful, educational and up to date. It immediately made me want to go out and grab a bottle. For the record, I only briefly perused the review section of the book and noticed that Eurocentric‘s imports had done well (no real surprise) so I just went to a good retailer and asked if they had any Eurocentric Champagnes in stock. This is the one I came home with. It’s an absolute ripper at full tote. Even better if you can get it cheaper.

An inviting nose of roasted nuts and lemon citrus backed up with red berries and apples, seashells and polished brass. Super fine bead, completely gorgeous mouth feel and excellent depth. Maybe some peach fuzz on the palate as well.

There’s a creamy fullness to the wine but it is in no way over the top. No sharp edges here. Length to burn too. It’s 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir for the record. One of the best bargains of the year. I could seriously not have enough of this lying around at the price.

    Hey Jeremy,

Totally agree that this is a ripping champagne. Drank at Espositos in Melbourne with, what else but amazing seafood. Love the richness that still manages restraint and poise. Don't know that I have enjoyed drinking a champagne more in quite some time. The excellent food and company probably helped though :)

I drank my bottle alone Dave. Still tasted very good :)

You're spot on re combination of richness, restraint and poise. It's not at all over the top. I'd call it "balanced" but I'm trying to use that word as little as possible these days.

  3. Thanks so much for recommending this last year. Opened another bottle tonight and thoroughly enjoying it whilst watching No Direction Home. Hope to watch part 2 with something equally worthy.

  4. It’s great drinking gear, glad you enjoyed it. Will be keen to have a look at the farmer fizz that Neville is bringing over before Xmas this year. Time to start pestering Cru to stock it I think.

Must watch ‘No Direction Home’ again actually. It’s been a while…
