2011 Yangarra High Sands Grenache

imageCurious wine. Not so much on account of the quality displayed by the previous release or how good the 2012 looked when I had a sneak peak at it last month. More a matter of the 2011 Yangarra Estate Grenache being so successful despite the challenges of the year.

This High Sands is incommunicado for the first three and a half days. Savoury, mulchy and pensive. Flashes of white pepper. On day five raspberries and red cherries began to assert themselves adding much needed balance to the twiggy, herbal notes. I’m really not sure what lies in its future. It will always be savoury and earthen and it has good length but that fruit will need to be unveiled for the rating to rise. 86+
