2010 Henry’s Drive Magnus Shiraz

imageApart from the 2012 Syrah I’ve found all the Henry’s Drive reds too overblown and unbalanced.

Big boy juice. Even men will need shoulder pads. Diesel fumes, prunes, vanilla custard and pulverised cloves. Thick with oak, thinned with bourbon. These wines tire me…but if you love grunt above all else then go for it. What adults do in the privacy of their own homes and all. 81

These wines shit me to tears. Quite cynical in their approach to educating wine drinkers and providing an experience. I just hope this is not exported. Producers should really resist the influence of style or market demand to the detriment of perceived quality (I know quality is subjective, but really, come on we are better than this).

  2. I like the odd good ‘big and oaky’ flagship when it’s balanced…but a lot of them aren’t. Mind you I don’t want to be prescriptive. If some consumers out there like this wine then more power to them. Best to ignore me and my site though :)
