2012 Handcrafted by Geoff Hardy Barbera

BarberaIt’s varietal in the sense that the acidity is pert but the flavours make for quite a quandary.

It smells and tastes mostly of red apples and aniseed. Those cherry notes that I expect in a Barbera are firmly in the background along with some plum and chocolate. Quite bizarre for any red wine really and certainly not what I was expecting. It actually tastes quite good. About medium-bodied. Has some leathery tannin. An oddball wine. Extremely difficult to rate. 88
