2012 The Wanderer Upper Yarra Pinot Noir

image

A different wine to the 2011 of course but the quality remains the same. It does smell, feel and taste riper despite the ABVs remaining the same. It’s from the same Yellingbo vineyard in the south of the Yarra.

Highly perfumed. Florals, black raspberries, hints of boysenberry and undergrowth. Complex seasoning including some Asian five spice. Around medium-bodied with plenty of presence, backlit by acidity. There’s more obvious architecture than in the previous release but the fruit can handle it and it maintains that seamless Upper Yarra Valley flow that I find so appealing. A touch of tea leaf on the finish but no more than that. Neither a wallflower nor a loudmouth. Expect a bright future. 94
