A Chardonnay that presents in terms of contradictions yet makes its most compelling argument when viewed as a (flawed) whole. Plenty of creamy cedar and spice oak coats the peachy fruit core with leesy almond croissant and oatmeal adding to the body and soft-focus texture.
What interests me is the tangy flavour and form contributed by the strong citrus characters; lime, tangerine and grapefruit. If it wasn’t for the juxtaposition they provide we’d have just another comfort Chardonnay that was a pleasure to drink but slipped under the radar without much thought. I still think there’s an element of confusion at play, but the way it puzzles me actually heightens my aesthetic appreciation. There’s something just a little bit off about what’s going on and for that very reason it is compelling. 92
