2012 De Bortoli Windy Peak Yarra Valley Chardonnay

windy_peak_chardonnay_nv_webAn interesting follow-up to the 2011 release which offered excellent value and was a pretty good wine regardless of price. This is softer, with riper flavours and less focus. There’s also a fair amount of solidsy, funky stink – which I personally don’t mind but wonder if it might be off-putting for some of those in the market for a ten to fifteen dollar Chardonnay.

Peachy width with some nectarine freshness. A hint of citrus and some general nuttiness. The oak is obvious but it doesn’t obstruct the fruit or harden the finish. Creamy and just a little syrupy. Decent length, no more. Still a good buy and the fact that it’s widely available works in its favour. 88
