2011 Coriole Sangiovese

The 25th release of Coriole’s Sangiovese, a wine I’ve certainly consumed and enjoyed my fair share of. It’s not quite of the same standard as is usually the case. The wet, cool vintage didn’t seem to hamper their Barbera much but it’s taken its toll here.

Darker fruit notes give the impression of depth, something that is missing on the palate. Otherwise you have your typical red cherries, some sage and sun-dried tomatos and a good dash of chocolate drinking powder all underscored by a distinctively herbal bass line. Has some flesh and grippy tannin but is never totally persuasive, presenting as a touch dilute. It’s still a decent wine mind you. 87 Average – Good
