2010 Weingut Keller Grüner Silvaner Trocken

A vinous curio and a bit of fun at that. Silvaner or Sylvaner is primarily grown in Alsace and Germany although I’m more familiar with the sweet Ballandean Estate version made on the Granite Belt in Queensland. It’s a grape that’s suffered from poor production methods in the past.

Opens up with dried fruits, pineapple and lime. Plenty of weight and viscosity on entry then changes course dramatically at the back of the mid-palate, becoming lighter with citrus and minerality dominating. The longer it was open, the more those delicate aspects came to the fore. Never reached any great heights but provided some interest over the course of the night. 88 Good
