2011 Whicher Ridge Sauvignon Blanc

The second Whicher Ridge Sauvignon Blanc I’ve tasted, the last being the 2009. Both wines’ most attractive attribute has been their textural appeal. I like to refer to it as textural layering. There’s a shaft of limey acidity underneath a cushioned mouthfeel which is, well, just comfortable. A touch of oak I suspect.

It smells of gooseberry, nettles and baby pineapples. Tropical but not sickly. Completely avoids abrasiveness and over the top pungency. A little spice sees it out. It’s not outstandingly long – not many Australian Sauvignons are – but what’s there is very pleasant. 90 Good
