2012 Pizzini Pinot Grigio

I used to buy Pizzini Pinot Grigio back when it had a distinctive pink/bronze hue (2006 was the last of those I think). I thought it rather fetching but in a conversation with Joel Pizzini many years ago he mentioned that a number of customers found it off-putting; so now we have a more straw coloured model. This is youthful and vibrant. It whispers rather than shouting and you couldn’t mistake it for a Gris styling; but it’s not entirely neutral either. I reckon it hits the nail on the head actually.

Faint aromatics of white flowers, lime citrus and nashi pear. It’s tight, crisp and crunchy on the palate. Pumice-like mineral qualities on the finish, which is neither overly long nor particularly short. If ever a wine wasn’t made for scoring, then this sort of Grigio is it…but perhaps that just indicates that we need to find a better way to incorporate the pleasure of these styles into our rating system? 89 Good

  1. Jesse says:

I love it when PG is pink.

I’m told that Raidis Estate’s is pink. And the Tim Adams is always a favourite. 2011 has less colour than usual though

  2. I’m with you on the colour aspect Jesse. Tim Adams a good call too, although I haven’t had a bottle since 2010.
