Brown Brothers Pinot Noir Chardonnay Pinot Meunier NV

At its price point, it is very hard to find an Australian Sparkling as impressive as the Brown Brothers NV. It’s been kicking goals for years. This review is of the 2009 assemblage; a blend of 52% Pinot Noir, 33% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier. Over half the fruit was sourced from the high altitude Whitlands vineyard in the King Valley – a truly magical site that sits 800 metres above sea level. Two years on lees.

Crisp citrus and green apple is met by hints of red fruits and some real depth via autolysis characters. The bouquet is nutty and full; this isn’t a shrinking violet by any means but it is structured and flows well. There are creamy qualities on the mid-palate and some biscuit and spice on a dry finish. Sits very high in the value stakes. 91 Good – Very Good

This is such a reliable wine in the best sense of the word. Bit of a go-to sparkling for me in that price range.

  2. Yep, you just can’t beat it in that sense. As you know, I like my fizz. As such I drink a fair bit of this.

Hear, hear. My go-to fizz when I’m counting pennies.
