2009 Donny Goodmac Chardonnay

Yarra Valley 12.2% Screwcap $28

The 2008 Donny Goodmac Chardonnay was always going to be a hard act to follow but Kate Goodman has worked some magic again with this release. It’s a refined style but it avoids the pitfalls of ‘under done’ Chardonnay.

Grapefruit, lemon and the ol’ struck match over apple, pear and bulgur. White peach and a little honeycomb enter the frame as the wine warms up and breathes. There is a quiet, composed intensity right through the nutty, linear palate. Spicy oak is firmly in the background.

It’s modern Australian Chardonnay done well and it should only improve with a bit of bottle age. Lots of quality and value here.
