2009 Yalumba Y Series Shiraz

South Australia 13.5% Screwcap $12.95

This was one red from the current Y series range that didn’t do a whole lot for me. It seems very commercial and quite confected, offering little of what I seek from wine. Having said that, it’s inexpensive and has no technical faults, so I’m quite sure it will have a market.

Sweet red and black fruits (and lollies) with some vanilla and the slightest of charred characters. It’s supple and there is only marginal tannin to stop it from sliding down smoothly. No real depth or length. The very definition of an adequate quaffer.
