2009 Four Winds Vineyard Alinga Chardonnay

Canberra 13.2% Screwcap $17 Source: Sample

This is the first Chardonnay I’ve tried from the Canberra district. It’s unoaked, so I should get my bias out of the way. I was discussing wine slogans for t-shirts with a table of people over lunch earlier this year. One bright, young lady suggested “No wood? No good.” When it comes to Australian Chardonnay that’s more or less my opinion…

Grapefruit, soapy lemon, sourdough, melon and a slice of pineapple. Tart and savoury flavours rub shoulders with more obvious tropical fruit and butterscotch notes. Some mealy, creamy texture on the mid-palate before finishing with a hint of pithy grip. An easy drinking style with an overall impression of sweetness. I don’t think it really comes together as a package myself. A bits and pieces wine. The label suggests serving it with curries and Asian food. Sounds about right to me.
