2009 Molly Morgan Chardonnay

Hunter Valley 13.5% Screwcap $20 Source: Sample

I’m quite happy to say that I think that this is both quite a lovely wine and a crowd pleaser. The two don’t always have to be mutually exclusive, and to view them that way runs the extreme risk of being an elitist wanker…something I wish to avoid most of the time.

White peach, nectarine, green apple, lemon and oatmeal with just a hint of fresh cream. A more than interesting nose with a little cheesy funk, nuts and some roast poultry enhancing the purer fruit flavours.

Oak is well pitched, if on the light side, providing spice and some texture along with judicious but important use of lees contributing a savoury edge, particularly on the finish. Easy drinking and quite stylish. A good effort here at a fair price.
