2009 Teusner Joshua GMS

Barossa 14.7% Screwcap $25 Source: Retail

65% Grenache 25% Mataro 10% Shiraz. Unoaked, and I really don’t think it needs any. There are some pure fruit tannins on the finish and they are a joy. Should do 5 years easily, maybe more. It’s, by far, my favourite Joshua to date.

Typical Grenache red fruits are joined by dark cherry, aniseed and a handful of black jubes. It’s more savoury than sweet – graphite, earth, rock salt and iron are there to balance the fruit. Some tobacco heads towards tar with pepper spice on exit. Serious minerality lifts this wine to a whole new level of quality….in terms of both flavour and texture.

Long and warming, but avoids crass alcohol heat. Not much more to say really, it’s a pleasure to drink and I can find no fault with it. I guess that means it would get a pretty high score if attached numbers to my notes.
