2009 Wickhams Road Gippsland Chardonnay

Gippsland 13.0% Screwcap $14.99 Source: Retail

I suppose this is a introductory label for Hoddles Creek, although they hardly need one given how inexpensive the Estate wines are. Its Chardonnays are sourced from the Yarra, Macedon & Gippsland. It would make sense that I would prefer the Macedon and Yarra versions, but if you know me, it’s probably not surprising to see that I purchased this first. Some say I’m whimsical, others say I’m oppositional. Many just consider me to be very strange. Maybe all are correct in a way…

Honeydew melon, white flowers, mandarins and assorted citrus with a little cream (Sh-boogie bop). Good balance & poise if slightly broader and more simple than some of Franco D’Anna’s wines. Lime and oak spice finish of more than ample length. Great value and a very good wine again thank you very much. Chardonnay this good at this price doesn’t really need a long note.

ps- I hope Hoddles Creek fill their website (which is under construction) with info on winemaking techniques. I feel bad emailing everytime I want to get tech specs. Label is 07 until I can get a new image.
