2008 Capital Wines The Frontbencher Shiraz

Canberra 13.5% Screwcap $25 Source: Sample

A couple of Shiraz to round out the day. I think the plural of Shiraz should be Shiraz. Shirazes sounds all wrong to me. Both of these are from Murrumbateman; yet another place I need to visit.

This one’s a comfy offering, ready to drink now while you wait on the 08 Kyeema Reserve Shiraz to hit its sweet spot…if you got in before it sold out that is. Vivid, fresh red fruits (berry mostly, but morphs into cherry at certain points) overlie a darker, sturdier base of blackberry. A dusting of chocolate and coffee covers the fruit flavours and there’s a nice sprinkle of spice. Some unshelled peanuts too! A supple entry gains more definition as it moves through its line.

It took a little while for the tannin to reveal itself, but it’s there and provides ample shape and form. Having said that, it’s not a structuralist wine. The pleasure is in the flavours and they are allowed to play quite freely, although still under appropriate adult supervision. Very good quality and hard to stop drinking.

Agree on the plural. Two Shirazes is two Shirazes too many.

Lol. Thanks Michael. I think my brother is the only other person to take up my cause when it comes to the plural of Shiraz.
