2008 Neagles Rock Cabernet Sauvignon

Clare Valley 14.5% Screwcap $25 Source: Sample

It’s fairly common knowledge that the Clare Valley experience a full-on heatwave during the 2008 vintage, making the production of quallity wines difficult (not impossible).

This one is lacking in structure and the usual fruit intensity inidicative of the region. It smells strongly of tomato bush, mint, black olives, pepper and blackberry but the fruit is dilute on the nose and thin on the palate.  The wine flounders on the tongue before some tannin creates some shape and form.  Slight improvement on day two along with the addition of leathery notes.  Hard work.
