2007 Dutschke St Jakobi Shiraz

Barossa 14.8% Screwcap $38 Source- Sample

I’ve got a box of Dutschke wines to plow through, so onto the next. 2010 Barossan Winemaker of the Year you know?

Loved the 2006 of this, the 2007 is looking almost as good. Fruitcake nose, with liquorice and charry oak. Summer berries float above it all. Big rush of soft, sweet blackberries on entry, then the spice hits on the mid-palate and doesn’t let up (in a good way). Mulberries arrive about the same time before coffee and vanilla kick in.

The tannins melt gorgeously on a very long finish. It’s generous, yes, but it’s structured generosity. It’s not just some twenty something Westend hipster with dreadlocks throwing coins into whatever charity box they see next. There’s quite a deal more intelligence at play here. But besides all that, it’s a joy to drink.
