2013 Jilly Nebbiolo

imageGrapes are sourced from the Topper’s Mountain vineyard sitting 900 metres above sea level in the New England region and carefully tended by vigneron Mark Kirkby. Jared Dixon makes the Jilly wines. An extra 700 bottles made for the second release, taking the tally to 1000.

Aromatically enticing. Rose water verging on Turkish delight, sweet red berry-cherry fruit, star anise, Italian herbs, rubber and an enticing hint of game. That note of rubber become a little more distracting on the second day of tasting. Medium-bodied and lively. An angular structure with just the right amount of flavour draped over it. Finishes dry on a note of asphalt with an impressive tug of varietal tannin. 91
