2009 Forester Estate Yelverton Reserve Cabernet

imageForester Estate have always frustrated me but this is downright confounding; $62 for what seems to be no more than a pizza wine. I guess you’re paying for the word ‘Reserve’ on the label.

Unsatisfactory depth of flavour at the price point. Decent structure but no more than that. Smells of Ribena with a strong note of shaving foam alongside clove studded, cedary oak. Dark chocolate, tar and bay leaf generate a little interest. For a reserve wine it’s surprisingly soft-fruited although it does gain a little weight over time. 88+
