No-one ever mentions Oakridge winemaker David Bicknell’s unrelenting enthusiasm for Merlot.
Medium-bodied, vital and structured. Very much the sort of expression I think we should be pursuing in Australia. Brambly fruit, both red and black, mingles with herbs, autumn leaf, pepper and a hint of brined olives. Balanced chewed pencil oak, slightly nervy acidity and tightly knit tannin. Becomes savoury from the mid-palate on. Three glasses in three days and I liked the third the most. 91
