2013 Seville Estate Chardonnay

sev charOnce again, no shortage of flavour in the standard Estate model but it is neither flabby nor overwhelming. The oak (30% new) is more noticeable but in balance. Seville Estate’s founder, Dr Peter McMahon, passed on in 2013 and the wines from that vintage bear his name prominently on the front label to commemorate his legacy.

Ripe melon, figs, apricot and lime. Toasty and slightly smoky with a good deal of baking spice. A hint of mealiness in the mouth. No buttery malo influence and it’s all the better for it this year. The acidity cleanses the palate and adds focus. A smoked almond character lingers. Tasteful magnanimity. 91
