2012 Michael Hall Barossa Valley Roussanne

Michael Hall RoussanneI wasn’t taken with the 2011 release of the Michael Hall Roussanne and took a little while to fully appreciate the current model. But it did grow on me. Mostly Marananga fruit from the centre of the Barossa Valley with a splash from Greenock. Eleven months on primary lees in French oak barriques (12% new).

Doesn’t seem as leesy as the 2010. There’s no mention of stirring this time round so that may be an explanation. The florals seem clearer, the fruit more detailed. A touch less body. Apples, lemon curd, cheese on sourdough toast and Twinings Gunpowder Green Tea. Supple and mouth filling. A little creamed honey and stale ginger. Leans in a savoury direction. 91
