For my money, this has become one of the more anticipated Australian releases each calendar year. The 2006 and 2010 vintages were excellent and this is of a similar standard. When it shows a little black and white pepper you pretty much know it’s on song.
Medium-bodied and in a cool climate mode. Violets, raspberry, roast beef and some blue fruits. Dark chocolate and clove oak is already swallowed up. Lithe but not skinny. Proportioned might be the word for it. A seam of mineral acidity and the kind of tight, assertive tannin I wish we saw more of in this country’s Shiraz wines. The score is probably conservative and may need to be revised in three to five years time. It should live quite a bit longer than that as well. 94

Always look forward to this release…my wallet thanks you again
PS-Had the 09 the other night and was thinking while it’s a pretty good release, it was lacking those cool pepper characteristics of this, the 2006 and 2010…
Cheers Rob
It’s that time of year when we all blow our wine budgets. At least we can fob it off on the festive season Rob I think 2007-2009 did lack a little satisfaction and I presume that was pretty much due to vintage conditions. Drank my last (Screwcap sealed) 2006 about a month ago in a moment of weakness. Feel like I’ll never quite forgive myself. Delicious but still had a lot left in the tank.
Yes Jeremy, any season & reason is good enough for me, ha.
I feel your pain…I always intend to cellar at least two….but nearly always find my self weakening too….the 06, was that good, resistance was futile so I’ve had my 3, all were sublime. ????
