2012 Ashton Hills Reserve Pinot Noir

ashton hills reserve pinotThis shouldn’t appeal to me as much as it does. I’m seldom moved by Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir and the amount of high-grade yet glossy new oak – a key component of the wine – usually puts me off. Despite that I found this nothing short of compelling.

Satin texture and a powerful depth of cherry and black raspberry fruit. Cracked pepper seasoning and a good deal of it along with a dash of cinnamon as a counterpoint. That creamy, clove spiced wood frames the wine without dominating it. Some minty lift works well within the overall context. Terrific flow. The ultra-fine tannins which conclude the affair are sensual and emphatic. I doff my hat. 95
