The most immediately appealing and approachable of the current Meerea Park reds that I tasted – I’m yet to tackle the 2011 XYZ. There is a touch of Viognier in here but it’s less prominent than I recall in previous vintages. Certainly no stone fruits. 22 months in French hogsheads, 30% new.
Violets and the full colour spectrum of berry fruit; black, purple and streaks of red. Pan juices, suggestions of Asian spice and a hint of soy. Savoury cedary oak. Ever so slightly slippery but no more than that. A little tinniness to the tannin. On the third day it began to exhibit more rustic notes of game. Good wine poured straight from the bottle right now, I know that much. 92
