I’ve not tasted a Picardy Merlimont before and judging from this release, more’s the shame. It’s the same blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc as the standard label reviewed below but there’s a greater sense of gravitas present here.
The line and length are immediately impressive. It’s a bright, structured wine and the tannins are all class. Not foreboding but certainly of a serious bent. Pastille mulberries and raspberries, pencil shaving oak, eucalypt, olives, spice and a meaty rusticity. Looked even better on the second day and should have a bright future, cork permitting. 93+
