2013 K1 by Geoff Hardy Grüner Veltliner

k1 gruner2013 marks the first year that K1 by Geoff Hardy (or any Australian producer for that matter) has released two distinctly different styles of Grüner Veltliner. This one roughly corresponds to the Federspiel style designating wines with alcohols between 11% and 12.5% and 4g/l or less of residual sugar.

Quite a lot of apple and tropical fruit stuffing despite the lower ABV. There’s breadth and roundness to the palate as well. Balancing that sense of abundance is varietal cucumber and pepper and the corresponding interplay is big part of the appeal here. Those characters play a role in the perfume and then again on the back-palate, working as a form of KFC fresh wipe. 89
