Given the collective celebration of all things “boutique” (which I’m happy to be part of) it’s always interesting to check in on the corporate world of wine. Yes, I’m talking about those self-professed “Vintrepenuers” and “Guardians of the Vines”, Treasury Wine Estates.
One way to enhance our assessment of the 2013 Clare Valley vintage for Riesling might be to look at a wine like this; a lot of bottles produced, a lot of fruit needing to be sourced. You could probably even find a bottle in Liquorland and they stock fuck-all. It’s a good wine too. I’m happy that a wide audience has access to it. Juicy limes with a hint of paw paw and a ginger spiced back-palate. Some pith and bath salts. Appreciable length. It has a bit of breadth but manages to maintain focus. Not austere. As a drink now proposition it works extremely well. 91
