2010 Kellermeister Wild Witch Shiraz

kellermeister wild witchTasted alongside the 2010 Kellermeister Black Sash Shiraz ($50) and the 2012 Kellermeister Avunculus Nepos Shiraz Grenache Mataro ($90) and this was the only wine of interest to me. They were all heavily steeped in oak. It was the quality of the fruit which made it stand out.

Vital blackberries with a prominent ripple of raspberry and bright acidity combine to overcome the shaft of chocolate and coffee wood which is otherwise the defining feature of the wine. It displays a salted caramel ripeness with licorice, brazil nuts and spice in tow. A hint of horse stables as well. Warm but with surprisingly good dynamic range. Built to impress. Most of the time I’d be seeking respite but I have to give it a degree of respect. 92+
