2013 Head Wines Grenache Rosé

head roseThis puts me in mind of Marco Cirillo’s 1850 Old Vine Grenache Rosé. Those looking for pale imitations of Provence are advised to move on.

There’s weight here and texture but it flows really well. Primarily red fruited – berries and apples. The palate is loaded up with watermelon juice and spice. Has an earthy, musky edge to it. Creamy but with the requisite acid to carry it. No longer comes in the Burgundy bottle pictured but the label’s essentially the same and the colour, while a touch darker than in real life, still give’s you a rough idea. A fine take on the style. 91
