2011 Marques de Tezona Tempranillo

marques tempContains 5% Shiraz. Clean with no detectable oak.

Fruit forward but not sweet. Black and red berries, cola, damp earth and black spice. A little rough and ready with bucolic tannin and slightly coarse acidity riding high. On the thin side. Some herbs and aniseed edging towards bitterness on the back-palate. Have a plate of food handy and don’t think too hard. 87

JP, been drinking the 2010 version, which lands on your doorstep at around $10. Has that crunchy tannin savoury clip and dusty cocoa I look for sometimes. Great value. DB

    • DB – I haven’t tasted the 2010 but I think this 2011 offers good value. People get hung up on 90 plus point wines. It’s nonsense as far as I’m concerned. Factor in the tasting note, personal preferences and the price and there are many sub 90 point wines that are good drinking and smart buying.

Exactly. I prefer to contextualise instead. These wines are for sitting on the couch eating hard Spanish cheese and watching Game of Thrones – for when you want to taste the blood :)

  3. Now you give me the recommendation…just after I’ve watched the last episode of season 3! I’ll give that match a whirl in nine months when season 4 airs :)
