2012 Yalumba Organic Viognier

yalumba organic viognierGood to see the Yalumba Organic Viognier bouncing back after a rough year in 2011. It sits right between the 2012 Y Series and 2012 Eden Valley expressions in terms of quality and that’s how it has been priced.

Orange blossom and tangerine compliment the usual suspects and provide that extra bit of charm. There’s still plenty of apricoty, peachy, musky flavour with liberal ginger and cinnamon spice. Some savoury lees derived notes. It’s a mouthful and there could perhaps be more definition to the suety feel of the wine but ultimately it is a fulfilling exploration of the full-bodied Platonic form of the variety. I’m wavering between 89 and 90 but I’ll take the latter as it is a good enough Viognier to bring some of the more open-minded into the fold. 90 Good
