The Story Wines have been producing a Pinot Noir since 2010 but this is the first time I’ve gotten around to tasting one of them. The 2012 release comes from a 15 year-old vineyard situated in Port Campbell on Victoria’s south-west coast. Wild yeast, some whole bunch and 20% new oak.
A smoky and complex number. It’s not falling over itself to win friends – something I admire in a Pinot. Violets and roses, cherries and purple fruits. Stony minerality carries the weight of flavour well. Gentle spice and earth. Offers a pleasingly twiggy, herbal dimension on the back-palate. 92 Very Good
