The first of the Oakridge Local Vineyard Series wines from 2012 to cross the tasting bench. I do tend to get rather excited by them. The Barkala Ridge Vineyard is situated in Wandin East towards the south of the Yarra Valley. Vines are rooted in red volcanic soils.
Lees derived aromas of nuts and sourdough bread, complexing sulphide notes, white florals, assorted tangy citrus characters, sea shells and nectarine. It’s a young wine and while it is more forward than the 2011 (which, incidentally, I had another glass of last week) it certainly benefits from a little air – or a couple of days of tasting/drinking – at the moment. An incisive, flinty and angular Chardonnay. Juicy through the mid-palate with excellent extension on the finish. Love it. Will be buying and cellaring a few bottles. 93+ Very Good – Excellent

Tasted this today JP in a strong lineup of Yarra ’12s. Your notes reflect mine – great florals and sulphides here. Bang on for line and length.
Where was the tasting Buck’s? In-house/out-house?
At Sticks of all places. Was a Wine Australia thingy.
Line and length so impressive, as you say DB. It’s a style I really enjoy yet I think the clarity of site is still very much in evidence. The Yarra Valley Wine Program later this year should be special judging by the 2012 YV reds and whites I’ve tasted so far.
