We don’t see as much straight Grenache from Heathcote as perhaps we might. The only version I’m overly familiar with comes from Jasper Hill…which sits next door to Heathcote Estate.
Matured in French oak for 11 months. This smells and tastes as much of the region as it does the variety – not a bad thing in my books. Iodine, red earth, dark cherries (some desiccated) and musk with raspberry rippling throughout. The oak is noticeable and savoury. Fruitcake spice. It’s around the medium-bodied mark and well structured with fine, graphite tannin and a little gunflint. At its best on the third day of tasting. I’d like to see it again in another five years time. 91 Good – Very Good
