As good as the Brown Brothers Patricia Pinot Noir Chardonnay is year in year out, and as undeniably high-class as the Patricia Noble Riesling can be I feel that the Patricia Shiraz, Chardonnay and now the Cabernet are letting the winery down. Brown Brothers are important to the landscape of Australian wine for numerous reasons. Some of these flagships need to be, well…less pedestrian.
Soft fruited, a tad confected, leaning towards a commercial rendition and lacking any X-factor. That’s this Cabernet in one sentence. It’s ok. Good even. Blackberry pastilles, Ribena, cedar oak, tobacco, nutmeg and gum leaf. Fruity tannin. A bit of length. But it doesn’t set itself apart from the pack in any way at all. 89 Good
