2009 d’Arenberg The Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon

darenberg coppermine roadIt’s easy to overlook this wine when it’s presented young in a blind line-up…especially if you’re tasting fast. Not my preferred approach – but sometimes that’s what you end up doing. While it’s dense and has a sweetness to it, it has always been a style made for extended cellaring. Anyway, this time I tasted it over three days and at my leisure.

A wine of contrasts in many ways. Generous redcurrant and blackcurrant fruit flavour matched to assertive, almost aggressive grainy tannin. Chocolate, cedar and some baking spice. Maybe a little tinned corn DMS but I doubt that will bother anyone who doesn’t have a strong aversion to it. Quite lithe and leathery in the mouth with persistence and power. 91+ Very Good
