2012 Jauma Sand on Schist Chenin Blanc

20130307-124229.jpgThe Jauma label is a product of the imagination of James Erskine. If we can put semiotic debates to the side for the moment, the wines fall into the “natural wine” category…or whatever you want to call it. The whole discussion bores me. I judge/taste what’s in the glass in front of me and take note of the techniques, vigneron and site/region – which are fascinating but not in the sense that I feel compelled to become an ideologue. I like to sit in the margins.

Sweet pink lady apples, sour apple skins, talc, elderflower and roses with hints of spice and earth. The acidity is unforced and it’s just a really enjoyable drink. Nothing profound but quite delicious all the same. And I think that matters. A lot. 90 Good

  1. Tom Belford says:

We should end this absurd debate forever. We should all settle on “unreal wine” and develop a set of regulations and definitions that do much to lose the essence of, well, everything reallly, but good strong lists of important stuff with numbers that can be upheld in a court of law. It’s that simple.

  2. Tom – that is one of the most intelligent statements I have read on the matter. You are a man after my own heart. I’m all about “unreal wine”, I just hadn’t thought of the correct terminology. Strong lists and numbers are crucial too. Brilliant stuff, thank you :)
