2006 Mount Pleasant Elizabeth Cellar Aged Semillon

mount pleasant lizzy“Now and then, I wish it was then…” – anon.

It seems an eternity since this wine was widely available on retail shelves, at least in Brisbane. In fact, when I think about it, the 2004 was the last that was readily stocked. But I dearly miss those days when a relatively inexpensive hit of mature Hunter Valley Semillon was only a brief drive away.

This isn’t a great Lizzy. It falls away on the back-palate, lacking persistence. Still, those typical flavours and aromas are so seductive to the initiated. Some toasty, waxy development joins lime and lemon thyme with a bit of Seville orange rind and butter. The acidity is hanging in there but it’s quite round and a little lacking in definition on the palate. Delicious though. It’s up to you when you want to drink it but I’d suggest that it’s in the zone now and probably best consumed within the next two or three years. 89 Good
