2005 Mike Press Cabernet Sauvignon

mike press 006The wine that quite literally launched the Mike Press label. It’s got a bit of bling on it including a gold medal from the 2006 Royal Melbourne Wine Show, where it also won a trophy. Here’s a quick update in case you have some in your cellar.

Mellow bottle age is just beginning to creep into the picture, softening the palate further and adding a hint of leather and earth. The spiced vanilla oak has well and truly sunk into the rich blackberry flavours with some red cherry and pepper abiding. It’s still rather primary in terms of flavour and the structure is holding on, suggesting another six to seven years is not out of the equation by any means. Certainly in its drinking window now but no rush. 94 Excellent
