2012 The Story Westgate Vineyard Blanc

The-Story-Westgate-Road-Blanc-20101The third release of The Story’s Rhone white blend, composed of Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier (60%/20%/20%). More forward than the 2011 and more complex than the 2010. All good expressions mind you. This was actually one of the wines I chose to drink on New Years eve. Tasty with pork belly and roasties.

A rather honeyed and rich nose with some poached pear, herbal tea, stone fruits and baked apple. The palate is somewhat viscous and a bit waxy with an appropriate backbone of acidity holding the flavours together and keeping rotundness at bay. Spice and bitter nut-skin phenolics contribute further interest. More of an early drinking style. One to enjoy while you let the 2011 mature for a few more years. 92 Very Good
