2011 Peter Lauer Fass 6 Senior Ayler Kupp Riesling

peter lauer 004I was introduced to the wines of Peter Lauer over a meal at my local Sichuan restaurant. A bottle of Schonfels 2010 displayed verve, structure and length which literally blew me away. I recognise that same energy and life in this 2011 Fass 6 Senior. It’s made in a trocken-feinherb style and there’s startling tension between residual sugar, sweeter fruits and cleansing, mineral-driven acidity.

Opens up with a perfumed turkish delight character which extends into spiced apricot, glimmers of herbs and assorted stonefruits. A line of grapefruit tunnels its way beneath the aromas and flavours. The finish is chalky and dry. Fairly prances across the palate with confidence and direction. 95 Excellent – Exceptional
