2009 Tahbilk Cabernet Sauvignon

tahbilk csJust quietly, out of the myriad of grape varieties Tahbilk try their hand at I think Cabernet Sauvignon is the variety that they do best. That’s not to say they don’t produce really good Marsanne or Shiraz but I’m convinced that their Cabernet is where it’s at. Almost always of high quality and cellars a treat. Had a glass of 1980 Tahbilk Bin 67 Cab Sav last year and it was singing.

The 2009 standard release is medium bodied with lots of savoury earthen character balancing jubey blackberries, plums and redcurrants. Menthol and tobacco leaf for good measure. No lack of acidity or accompanying dynamics and a nice amount of drying, long grain tannin which is toothsome now and will hold the wine in good stead over the years to come. Value here is very high, even at full tote. 92+ Very Good
