I’m a big fan of the value and cellarability of Tahbilk’s entry-level reds but this premium release leaves me cold. It feels and tastes liquered and baked, lacking freshness and energy.
Almond essence, flat brambly fruits and dried plums with menthol lift and sodden earth depths. It doesn’t lack complexity, with suggestions of roast lamb and leather on the nose and palate but a spirit-like edge doesn’t help matters. There’s still plenty of structure and primary fruit but I can’t see it ever becoming a great wine. 88 Good
