2012 d’Arenberg The Dry Dam Riesling

They might be more widely known for their Rhone varieties but d’Arenberg’s first white wine was in fact a Riesling, made under the stewardship of the legendary d’Arry Osborn. It’s an oddity in that McLaren Vale isn’t the first region that springs to mind when one thinks of the variety. Still, as on off-dry expression this is a success. It’s quite simply balanced and very pretty.

Lime sherbet, apple blossom and tea cake studded with sultanas. The acidity creates a bit of nervy tension with talc and bath salts contributing the finishing touches. Easy Summer quaffing that will match a range of foods. Some quality to boot. 91 Good – Very Good

  1. GW says:

Is this made as an off dry wine now? Alcohol would seem to indicate this.

  2. From memory it’s about 13g/l rs…I first tasted it with 48 other d’Arenberg wines earlier this year and I couldn’t find my original notes on it, so that may be a gram or two off. I was really surprised how well it worked, both then and after looking at a bottle this month. Will be interested to see what other people think.
